Advances in genomic profiling of respiratory viral pathogens
October 23 2024, 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM BST

Webinar Overview

Early and rapid detection of viral respiratory pathogens is vital in the fight against them, and genomic surveillance an essential tool.

In this webinar, we will hear from Dr. Heba Mostafa on whole genome amplification of, and characterisation of Respiratory Syncytial Virus in the Johns Hopkins Health System (JHHS) during the 2023/2024 season. By contrast, Dr. Nick Gauthier will describe an end-to-end, metagenomic next generation sequencing (mNGS) assay for the pathogen-agnostic detection of respiratory viruses.

In this webinar, viewers will learn:

  • About general methods for viral respiratory pathogen surveillance with nanopore technology.

  • How to perform targeted viral sequencing of Respiratory Syncytial Virus for the purposes of genomic surveillance.

  • About the performance and feasibility of metagenomic NGS for respiratory viral detection, infection control, and public health surveillance.
